Onigiri (Nasi Kepal Jepang)

It is made of rice with a filling wrapped in delicious nori, seaweed paper.
The ingredients are rice, nori (thin sheets of seaweed) and the fillings, we used umeboshi (pickled plums) and kombu (pickeld seaweed).
Wash you hands then wash the rice. Try and use rice that will stick together after cooking. Allow the rice to cool so that you can handle it.
Onigiri comes in three basic shapes; a ball (maru), a triangle (sankaku) and a cylinder (tawara). Here we are making a triangle. Make a right angle between your palm and your fingers and mould the rice into a triangle shape.
Wrap the rice ball, or triangle, or cylinder with the nori and you are ready to eat.
Before eating in school we always say 'Itadakimasu'. After eating we say 'Gochisosama deshita'. This is just a way to say 'Thank you' for the food we eat.
If pickeld plum and seaweed are hard to find where you are you might try some baked salmon. If none of these appeal feel free to try a filling of your own devising. Let us know how it tastes.
